How much would it cost to re-wire my house?
My house is a four bedroom Cape Cod with a crawl space instead of an attic that was built in 1950. All the wiring is original, and sixty years later, is crumbling. The wiring contains asbestos and that is worrying me. If someone could give me an estimated cost I would appreciate it.
I rewired a 2 story 1950’s home several years ago. It had a large attic and an unfinished basement. The total price I charged was $18,000.00ish. We did it on a time and material base. We did 95% of the work without any plaster damage. The house was in museum condition so we did as much as we could without damage. I think we got lucky on most of the work, in other words, it could have been much worse!
Sometimes the plaster repair is cheaper than trying to fish wires.
You might have an electrician check your wiring. I would say that in ceiling light boxes and possibly the attic might be the only place the wiring may need to be replaced because of the heat.
