Asbestos Society

can a housing society force you to take off the Asbestos Roof over your verandah? it was bought legally.?
problem is with the agreement that the builder gave us. The plan page does not have a page number, but has stamps. Not so sure that it will be taken as an authentic piece of document. They are going to serve us a notice to get rid of the roof. What can we do to sove the problem permanently?
What is bought legally – the flat or the Asbestos Sheet? If the sheet partially covers the verandah, it may be permitted as a “temporary shelter” in certain circumstances such as monsoons, not requiring permission of your local municipality. Check with them. If it covers the entire verandah, and windows, walls etc have been fitted so as to create an ‘extra’ room, then you are looking at a different ball game altogether. You can apply to your local authority for conversion of your verandah into a permanent covered room, and pending disposal of your application, the society will have to wait. In any case, you have not got any notice yet, so wait and see what it says.
