Chrysotile Asbestos

chrysotile asbestos
Asbestos test results for popcorn ceiling 10%, what does this mean?

Under ASBESTOS FIBERS it lists Chrysotile: 10%, and the rest as ND. Is this a large percentage?

YES it is and those fibers can stay floating gin the air for a month if it becomes friable.

If the popcorn ceiling is not damaged there is no danger, but if it gets damaged by scraping, sanding drilling or when it dries after water damage it can be very dangerous. The term friable means that it is in a state that can become airborne.

FYI it takes on average 30 years for it to kill if enough is inhaled. The fibers are many times smaller than a hair follicle and are indestructible!

It slowly makes it’s way to the end of the sir sacs in the lungs and 30 years later when it reaches the end you immune system send white blood cells to kill The Asbestos fibers and the fibers pierce the DNA of the white blood cells and they turn to cancer. That is mesothelioma.

Asbestosis is the inflammation of the lungs I believe. I forgot some of this, but I took a class on it at work a few years ago,but these are the basics of the dangers from it.

EDIT: I don’t remember the percentages ratings, but that is high. Keep in mind though ASBESTOS IS COMPLETELY SAFE UNTIL IT BECOMES DAMAGED AND FRYABLE!

So don’t freak out about it. Just make sure you get away if it is damaged. Also when wet it can’t get airborne, but is a danger to waterways so don’t put it down sink. It also is dangerous through ingestion not just inhalation.

This has to be fixed with professionals.
